The Songwriter's Beat is an acoustic night for performing songwriters,
where all are encouraged to perform new material in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
Hosted by NYC singer/songwriter Valerie Ghent, The Songwriter's Beat meets every third Wednesday of the month at the Cornelia Street Cafe, doors at 8:30pm.
Four songwriters of different genres and styles perform each month; each takes the stage for 25 minutes. All are encouraged to try a new song or arrangement in the intimate and supportive atmostphere of the cafe. Each month The Songwriter's Beat brings new audiences and songwriters togetherin a kind of musical cross-pollination.
Join us and become part of the ever-growing Songwriter's Beat community!
Other Songwriter's Beat events include:
Songwriter's Beat Festival - this 6-day festival began in July, 2005, and celebrates songwriters and original songs, featuring songwriters who have performed at The Songwriter's Beat and special guests.
The Songwriter's Beat NewSongs Workshop, in 2003 this workshop met every first Tuesday of the month, then went on sabbatical. In 2008, we were delighted to receive support from the ASCAP Foundation to bring back the NewSongs workshop series to members of ASCAP - this workshop series focuses on new songs!
The Songwriter's Beat Showcase - a showcase night for songwriters who have already performed at The Songwriter's Beat. Watch the calendar for announcements on upcoming shows.
